The fast bowler Expected to Feature a Major Role in the Ashes

Pat Cummins bowling

Pat Cummins has secured over 300 dismissals in 71 Test matches with an stellar bowling average.

Australia's chief selector the selector has declared that pace spearhead Cummins will have a crucial role in the upcoming Ashes series.

Rumors had circulated that Cummins might be unavailable due to a persistent back stress problem that had not yet healed.

Earlier indications from the Australian camp suggested no definitive call had been made regarding his involvement, with the extended contest set to start on 21 November in the WACA.

Bailey expressed that his recovery is on track and felt positive about the prospects of participating.

"We know that the clock is ticking and multiple considerations at play, not only the back issue, but additional elements," the selector added.

"The outlook is good. [We are] really confident that he's going to play a significant role. With luck from the opening match. Otherwise, we'll adjust."

Injury History

Cummins was ruled out Australia's limited-overs series against New Zealand and India last month after scans revealed a stress reaction in his back.

There is a track record of back injuries, with setbacks in multiple past seasons forcing him out of several home seasons in a short span.

Cummins stated he would be proactive in his approach in his comeback strategy to ensure his availability for the Ashes.

Bailey noted that he did not know if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his recovery but acknowledged it was "pressing" for him to recover fully for the opener.

Contingency Plans

Should Cummins not be fit, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.

All-rounder Cameron Green was withdrawn recently from the national team for their limited-overs matches against the Asian giants as a safety move because of an abdominal issue.

The selector characterized it as a "slight concern and mentioned that Green will play in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "ideally positioned to resume bowling."

"Extensive planning has gone into developing the strategy for him to participate for the first Test as an dual-role player," he elaborated.

"Originally, he'd only feature in the initial matches regardless. His aggressive style the willow in shorter formats, if it causes any delay for 24 more hours, the choice was made to adopt a safer strategy."
